Summer Solstic

6/18/19

Louise led our meeting last night as Toastmaster with a theme of Summer Solstice. Louise infused a ton of information and facts into the meeting between speaking events and activities. We had several guests join as well – so that you to the guests for joining and participating!

Diana did a speech on Communication Styles from the Toastmasters curriculum. The Toastmasters assessment of communication styles includes 4 styles: Direct, Initiating, Supportive, Analytical. Each of which has pros, cons, and preferred ways of interacting.

Erin led a debate about whether the wonderfully long summer days we have in Seattle are *worth it* to then have the super short days we have in the winter. The group voted and agreed that the debate was won by the side arguing that the short winter days are worth it for our lovely summer days.

Louise led Table Topics where everyone had the same question: choosing from the places you’ve lived, describe your favorite summer. We heard about northern Idaho, Michigan, Saudi Arabia, southern India, and Seattle.

We also had 2 people join our club last night! So congratulations to those embarking on their new journey to strengthen their leadership, communication, and public speaking skills.

Next week, our theme is “The 90’s”. Diana will be our Toastmaster and she will be inducting 2 new members next week!
