Credit Scores

6/23/30

Harry was Toastmaster for the evening with an informative theme of Credit Scores. He started off the meeting with the introductory question, “What are some things you can do to change your credit score?” Harry discussed the three major credit score companies – Experian, Equifax, and Transunion – and talked about how a mathematical algorithm helps calculate your credit score. He informed the group that your credit score can range from 300-850, with the bottom of that range from 300-579 being a poor rating, and the top of the range from 800-850 being an excellent rating. He then discussed five factors that can impact your credit score. These factors included: payment history, total amount of credit used, length of credit history, the types and numbers of accounts you have, and inquiries.

While there was no official speaker for the evening, the group listened to a speech from 2018 Toastmaster World Champion Ramona J. Smith. She gave a speech entitled “Still Standing,” talking about obstacles/challenges she has overcome in the areas of dropping out of college more than once, a failed marriage, and losing speech contests after a streak of wins. The group gave a round robin evaluation of likes and dislikes from her speech.

Jamie was our Debate Master and led with a topic about the current administration temporarily suspending work visas allowing foreigners to work in the U.S. Team A argued for the suspension of visas, while Team B argued foreigners should be allowed to work in the U.S. The debate session ended in a tie.

Kellon led our Table Topics session with a series of fun questions. The questions included: What is the craziest or most daring thing you’ve ever done?; What songs are on your zombie killing soundtrack?; What conspiracy theories do you believe in?; What is your favorite dinosaur and why?; and, If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?

Our word of the day was rating, a noun. We had six attendees, all members. Thank you all for participating!
