Tonight’s meeting topic: Candy!

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Tonight’s first extemporaneous speaking opportunity, the debate, was brought to us by Mr. Austin, who asks the eternal question: drive home, or fly home for the holidays?

Tonight’s second extemporaneous speaking opportunity, table topics, was brought to us by Mr. Eddie.
Table topic #1: You own a big candy company. How do yo convince the government not to tax candy?

Table topic #2: John Candy, from the film Planes Trains and Automobiles, was an annoying travel companion. How do you get rid of annoying travel companions?

Table topic #3: You are the ad executive for Frosted Flakes, and you fired Tony the Tiger in favor of Tiger Woods. But it’s not working out, and you want Tony the Tiger back. How would you convince Tony the Tiger to take his old job back?

Table topic #4: How would you get the Oompa Loompas from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to unionize?

Thanks again to Eddie and Austin for coming up with neat questions for tonight’s meeting! And if you have an answer for one of tonight’s meeting topics, come to a future meeting, or join the conversation at http://www.facebook.com/chamberclub540

Chamber Club 540 is one of the oldest clubs in Seattle…and look what we found! Some old photos hidden away. Today Chamber Club 540 is a vibrant and diverse club, but it’s great to see some of the history…and check those old school duds!

Chamber Club and Team Beanie – raising money for Pasado’s!

Thursday, August 4th, 2011

Last weekend, some members of our very own Chamber Club 540 participated in the Pasado’s Safe Haven dog walk! Under the banner of Team Beanie, they collectively raised $720, which will go to Pasado’s to support their mission of animal rescue. Go Pasado’s! Go Team Beanie!

Seriously this is pretty cool. Pasado’s has made quite a name for themselves as rescuers of animals in trouble. I’m happy that they’re able to do this – I personally am only able to rescue dogs that I am not allergic to, which is about half of them. I love all animals, I just have to love some of them from further away than others. Cats, for example, I can’t really get close enough to do anything like love them. So I’m very grateful that Pasado’s members are, and that Chamber Club 540 was able to support them in their work! Hurray!

A Chamber Club Toast!

Saturday, January 22nd, 2011

(At the end of a meeting with the theme “Favorite Cookbooks”)

• Start by pre-warming our oven (or our meeting room) with the energy of members and guests.
• Get our tools ready to begin – the banner, the podium, the lights, the gavel.
• At a large table, add a dash of daily words and a pinch of Table Topics.
• Stir in a heaping spoonful of humor, a generous helping of enthusiasm.
• If you like, add some chocolate to taste. OK, maybe add some more.
• It’s most important to remember to award the Competent Communicator and “Gaze upon the quads of our lord.”
• Let it simmer, stew, bubble, and boil every Tuesday from 7-9 PM.
• And ladies and gentlemen, here’s to Chamber Club Toastmaster’s recipe for success!

Presented by our Area 25 Governor, Eden Maloney
